Playing AFL and training racehorses are two exceptionally time consuming and tough professions and while most footballers would be eyeing a break to rest and rejuvenate at the end of their careers, Ballantyne said his competitive nature made him want to get straight back into racing. In saying this, he isn’t new to the sport, with his dad being a horse trainer in Perth for many years.
Ballantyne started training following his retirement from AFL in 2019, and has a small stable at any one time in work. He defied the odds as a small powerhouse forward in the AFL, and is now trying to do the same in racing! Watch his trainer pitch below:
