The long search for a worthy “ready to run” horse to join the NSW Tycoons and to be trained by Joe Pride came to a thrilling conclusion at the Inglis Digital on Wednesday August 25 with the purchase of Penso a Lei, which means “I think of her” in Italian. Offered as Lot 133, bidding was fierce for Penso a Lei, starting at $30,000 before quickly climbing to $155,000 and being knocked down to The Racing League.

This daughter of champion stallion So You Think was identified by TRL’s bloodstock team as a horse with plenty of ability along with enormous upside and Joe Pride, a master at training a tried horse agreed with our team. Penso a Lei, has had seven career starts for two wins and a third placing all in just one preparation. Both those wins came over 2000 metres but our bloodstock team and Joe, believe the breed is best over shorter journeys with a mile probably her optimum distance.

You’ll maybe recognise her racing colours which were made famous by Yes Yes Yes winning the Tab Everest in 2019. Her ownership group are clearing many of their horses who have turned four years of age and TRL were happy to pounce. By So You Think out of Nena Candida this mare is well bred, with a Blue Diamond winner Nadeem on the dam’s side and will retain some great residual value as a broodmare.
