WOW – WHAT A WEEKEND OF RACING

The Golden Slipper picture may become a lot clearer on Saturday after many of the headline acts turn out to see if the shoe fits in the Group 2 Silver Slipper with the winner automatically qualifying for the richest two-year-old race in the world.

At Flemington, the world’s best sprinters line-up in a cracking edition of the Lightning Stakes with Eduardo trained by our very own Joe Pride resuming his tussle with Nature Strip.

Let’s find some winners from our TRL trainers.

PRIDE ON THE LINE IN TWO STATES

NSW Tycoons trainer Joe Pride may be in for a new career highlight.

His champion sprinter Eduardo will again challenge Nature Strip in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes down the famous Flemington straight. Eduardo, a $4.20 chance with Sportsbet has beaten Nature Strip the last two times when he’s been fresh, he can notch up the hat-trick.

At Rosehill, Joe has the very talented youngster Shalatin looking to qualify for the Golden Slipper. He was very good running second to Serjardan last start and is ready to rock first-up this campaign according to the stable.

Invinciano is third-up now, much fitter and on top of the ground shouldl thrive over the 1400m.

BET: Eduardo – Each Way (Flemington Race 7)

BET: Shalatin – Each Way (Rosehill Race 6)

BET: Invinciano – Each Way (Rosehill Race 9)

GAI TO CONVERGE ON HOBARTVILLE

The Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott stable looked to be in for a strong day at Rosehill Gardens.

Group One winner Converge was great first-up, he will be a long way in front of Anamoe with 200 meters remaining and if the Rosehill track is leader bias (as it normally is) will take a ton of catching.

Entente, is first-up over 1900m but has been tuned up with two solid trials, he’ll go forward and on the Rosehill track will give a great sight (Sportsbet $6.50)

Don’t forget about Darjaan in the last for Adrian and Gai. He was forced to carry a massive weight last start and beat a weaker field. He can improve off that and win the last at Rosehill.

BET: Entente – Each Way (Rosehill Race 6)

BET: Converge – Each Way (Rosehill Race 7)

BET: Darjaan – Win (Rosehill Race 10)

CUMANI TO STRIKE EARLY

With Team Captain enjoying his spell before starting a Melbourne Cup campaign, trainer Matt Cumani should be able to keep the bank manager happy with Tycoon Bec in the first race at Flemington.

She got a bit lost last start over 2000m but was strong through the line, fitness won’t be an excuse and with an ounce of luck we’ll start the day with a winner.

BET: Tycoon Bec – Each Way (Flemington Race 1)

MICK PRICE IN A LOVIN’ MOOD

The Mick Price/Michael Kent Junior trained I’mlovin’ya appeals at the $6 on offer at Sportsbet in Race 4.

This beautiful bay filly found trouble on debut but reeled off the third best final 400 meters of the day to catch the eye. Stick with her.

BET: I’mlovin’ya – Each Way (Flemington Race 4)

MAHER SUPPORTS SOCIALIST

To be honest, not sure of Ciaron Maher’s political persuasion but he’ll be cheering for Socialist in Race 5 at Flemington. He’s now rock hard fit after a trip to the Gold Coast where he ran well and has Jamie Kah in the saddle.

Ciaron and Dave Eustace have a couple at big odds who I’m prepared to speculate on. Grandslam (Race 8) and The Big Easy (Race 9). Grand Slam has never won first-up but watch the Sportsbet market movers. While The Big Easy had no luck last time, pulled up lame and I’m happy to stick around that $16.

BET: Socialist – Each Way (Flemington Race 5)

BET: Grand Slam – Each Way (Flemington Race 8)

BET: The Big Easy – Each Way (Flemington Race 9)

GOLLAN TO SHINE AT SUNNY COAST

Good luck to our Qld Rogues trainer Tony Gollan with Krone in the feature at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes, but we’ll concentrate on his runners at the Sunshine Coast.

There are no medals handed out for tipping Palladas as the best bet of the day. He was unlucky last start, is a class above the opposition and excluding bad luck – looks a good thing.

Brentwood (Race 7) has Sam Collett in the saddle, he was good at Ipswich first-up but fitness just found him out late, sticking with him.

Shamrock Lu (Race 8) there’s been some specking for this bloke on Sportsbet $7.50, he’s drawn terribly in barrier 14, but if he can get an easy run out the back, he should finish off strongly.

BET: Palladas – WIN – (Sunny Coast Race 2)

BET: Brentwood – Each Way (Sunny Coast Race 7)

BET: Shamrock Lu – Each Way (Sunny Coast Race 8)

HEATHCOTE GIVES US A LEG UP.

We were lucky enough to spend some time with Qld Rogues trainer Rob Heathcote during the week and he said “don’t forget about Deep Sceiva on Saturday”.

Deep Sceiva was a really good first-up at Doomben where her fitness just told late. She’ll go forward and be extremely hard to beat.

BET: Deep Sceiva – Each Way (Sunny Coast Race 5).

Good luck and good punting.

Cool Jakey was the King of Warwick Farm  on Wednesday and NSW Tycoons owners would like to package the Metropolitan track and just take it wherever Cool Jakey goes after he kept his undefeated record intact.

It’s remarkable that ‘Jakey’, trained on track and stabled across the road with Joe Pride, is one of those athletes, albeit of the equine kind, who thrives on his home ground.

He won on debut at Warwick Farm way back in February of 2023 and the love affair hasn’t ended, Cool Jakey has now won 4 from 4 at ‘The Farm’ and there’s plenty more wins in store for your son of Pierro.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
