vic husslers mick price talks 2yo

The VIC Husslers were treated to a session with Mick Price on 2YOs and how he deals with young colts in this exclusive TRL webinar.

VIC HUSSLERS HORSES

When you purchase a unit in the VIC Husslers you own your share of a six horse racing team. Your team continues to grow each year until you have a ten horse racing team with the leading trainers across the state. You will race against the best from around Australia, the QLD Rogues and the NSW Tycoons. You will be living, loving and owning a team of premium racehorses!

Team Captain

This son of champion European sire Galileo was identified by TRL’s bloodstock team as a stayer with plenty of ability, who can rattle off impressive sectionals and handles all types of going.

Team Captain has had 22 starts for 5 wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds, most recently his win in The Hamilton Cup for the VIC Husslers in his first start for the team. He is now being targeted at a race on either Derby Day or Melbourne Cup Day. What a thrill for owners!

Eureka Storm (Written Tycoon x Tornado Miss)

With 11 individual G1 winners to his credit, two of which; Ole Kirk and Pippie, became dual G1 winners in 2020, Written Tycoon’s rise to prominence has been via his consistent stakes winning stock.

The likes of 2018 G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner and highest 2YO Timeform Rated colt of his season in Written By, the flashy, dual G1-winning speedster Pippie, and G1 Golden Slipper and Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Capitalist, whose first crop juveniles have hit the ground running. This colt looks to already possess some qualities of his super sire.

The Big Freeze (Pride Of Dubai X Just Add Water)

Pride of Dubai is a Champion Australian First Crop Sire and the dual Group I winning son of Street Cry has produced a real athletic type here. A stunning bay colt coming off the famous Widden Stud Farm in the Hunter Valley, he looks to already possess some of the key qualities of his father.

Pride of Dubai is the only horse to complete the Gr.1 Blue Diamond Stakes/Gr.1 Sires’ Produce Stakes double. He is closely related to Champion sire Invincible Spiritand leading 2YO sire Kodiac. Street Cry already has 8 individual sons to have sired Gr.1 winners, and we are sure there are more to come.

Lethal Thoughts (So You Think X St Remy)

The Sire of this colt So You Think is the highest-rated Australian colt of the modern age – higher-rated than the likes of Pierro, Zoustar and All Too Hard. So You Think came to prominence through winning the 2009 and 2010 Cox Plates back to back. He had 10 Gr.1 wins in 2 hemispheres, defeating over 75 individual Gr.1 winners with career earnings over $8.9 million.

His career so far at stud has been just as good, with his top performers including Gr.1 winners Quick Thinker and Nakeeta Jane. This colt looks a stunning type and I am sure he will show us all what he is made of on the track.

Pierro x Life On The Edge

Pierro needs no introduction. He was the unbeaten Triple Crown winner as a 2YO and a dual Gr. 1 winner as a 3YO. Pierro is the highest-rated Australian juvenile since 1977, and was the highest-rated 3YO sprinter in the world in 2013.

Pierro has already proved himself at stud, being a champion first, second and third season sire in Australia. He is already the sire of 7 individual Group 1 winners including Levendi, Pierata and Arcadia Queen. It is no surprise that he currently stands at a service fee of $137,500 at the renowned Coolmore Stud, and how lucky are the VIC Husslers to have a colt by this super sire.

Bellinger

Bellinger is the first ready to race horse for the VIC Husslers and is trained by Lindsay Park. Bellinger is an exciting three year old gelding which has only had eight starts for one win and a second, amassing $49,000 in prize money. That win came on February 24 this year at the Sandown Hillside course where he won by three lengths carting a hefty 59kgs.

Being by the champion sire of sprinters Zoustar out of a More Than Ready mare, Bellinger is bred for speed and will be trained as a sprinter by Ben Hayes and his Lindsay Park on his return from a spell.

VIC HUSSLERS TRAINERS

Moody, Price, Maher and that’s only half the team!
The VIC Husslers can proudly boast they have some of the best trainers in the country on their team but perhaps their secret weapons are the new kids on the block who are showing that a holistic approach and incredible facilitates bring consistent winners too.

Ciaron Maher & David Eustace

Originally they said he was only a “former jumps jockey” and a trainer of “hurdlers”, but now Ciaron Maher is at the top of the heap and is arguably the most sort after trainer in the country. He was apprentice to the great CS Hayes and spent time learning from Bart Cummings.

Like Ciaron, David knows to be the best you have to learn from the best, so he moved to Australia where he worked with Peter Moody and the Snowdens before joining Ciaron as his assistant. Two years learning Ciaron’s methods and adding his own thorough and meticulous attention to detail made it easy for Ciaron to make David his co-trainer, and they continue to achieve success together.

Lindsay Park

For Six Decades and now 3 Generations, the name Hayes has not only been synonymous with racing in this country, but with success at the highest level. From the legendary Colin Hayes to David, now his son Ben along with nephew Tom Dabernig are carrying on the most impressive tradition.

Nothing markets like success and at the Melbourne Cup carnival in 2020, Lindsay Park Racing not only finished as the leading trainers of the carnival, but had a winner on every day of Fabulous Flemington. The training facilities at Lindsay Park are considered some of the best in the world, so you know your horse will be looked after here.

Matthew Cumani

Matt’s approach seamlessly blends the best of old-school horsemanship with his own take on globally informed techniques and up-to-the-minute industry advancements. He boasts ten year of experience under the tutelage of some of the world’s most celebrated trainers including Chris Waller, Ed Dunlop and of course his father, Luca Cumani.

Matt established his training enterprise at one of Australia’s premier training destinations – Ballarat, Victoria – where he believes the more rural environment is better suited to the training regime of his horses.

Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr.

Mick Price never wanted to be the biggest trainer, but he certainly strives to be the very best and is driven every day by the love of the horse. He has firmly established himself as one of Australia’s leading racehorse trainers since taking out his license in 1991, having 38 Group 1 wins to his name.

Mick has the best of both world’s with his city stable based at Caulfield, along with facilities at Warrnambool where his horses can work and frolic along with beaches. In 2019 he formed a partnership with Michael Kent Jr., and the two of them continue to achieve success together on the track.

Peter Moody

Peter Moody is a born again horse trainer and a larger than life character. When you hear his name, you instantly think of the legendary mare Black Caviar, with 15 of her wins coming at Group 1 level. His journey is nothing short of extraordinary, starting from the dusty race tracks of far North Queensland before culminating with victory at Royal Ascot with his mighty mare Black Caviar.

Peter Moody’s first major winner was Amalfi in 2001 and first Group One winner was Amalfi in the 2001 VRC Victoria Derby. He now trains a small amount of runners out of Pakenham, and is loving being back in the training game achieving success once again.

Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are a formidable partnership both on and off the track. They first met as two Kiwi teenagers working at the Kranji track, things took their natural course and the pair moved back to New Zealand as a couple and started their training partnership.

Trent and Natalie now train out of their Cranbourne base, and while they’ve made their name training stayers, they are eager to prove they are just as successful with two year-olds. Their partnership has so far netted a plethora of winners, including a VRC Derby with Sangster and an Australian Derby with Tavago, as well as many stakes winners, such as Main Stage and Anaheim. Trent and Natalie continue to figure prominently in the top 10 of the Victorian trainers premiership.

VIC HUSSLERS AMBASSADOR

AFL Premiership winner and Brownlow medallist Shane Crawford has always had a deep passion for the racing industry.
In fact, the 300 game Hawthorn star actually worked in the Freedman stable during their “golden period” when the stable boasted the likes of three time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva.

VIC HUSSLERS MANAGER

The word “versatile” doesn’t really do justice to the multi-talented jockey Chris Symons. The accomplished horseman has many strings to his bow. He has ridden in over 12,000 races and guided home more that 1200 winners on the track, but he’s just as famous for his work away from the course.
Symons is also an integral part of the Seven Network’s coverage of horse racing and his horse back post-race interviews with winning jockeys are certainly different in a positive for the industry. Chris’s deep knowledge of the thoroughbred and the horse are a major bonus for the Vic Husslers.
