CAN YOU SMELL IT !

Aug 11, 2022

Can you smell that…yes the first whiff of Spring and all the exciting times that come with owning your respective 7 Horse Racing Team?

Did you catch that barrier trial of Team Captain on Tuesday morning? Yes, it was just a barrier trial but what an effort, on the back of that our Captain has firmed into a $41 chance for the Melbourne Cup.

Time to check out the major chances from your trainers this Saturday.

MORE OF THE SAME FOR KIM WAUGH

Kim Waugh is more than happy with the way Sidenay is progressing at her Wyong base.

Kim had a great finish to the old season and there’s no reason she won’t hit the ground running at Rosehill.

True Crime (Race 2) has had just 3 starts for 2 wins including an easy win on a bog track at Randwick, he can win again.

Oxford Tycoon (Race 3) has been a warhorse for Kim, he’s got topweight here, was easy in the betting last start but still won.

GAI & ADRIAN TO SPARK IT UP

The Waterhouse/Bott stable are starting to up the ante with Blue Thorpedo for the NSW Tycoons so keep an eye out for the trainer updates as “Tonka” heads towards the trials.

At Rosehill they have a strong hand, Riduna (Race 5) has had 3 starts this campaign and is yet to miss a place. Like all of the stable’s horses she makes her own luck and will be hard to get passed.

Star Sparks (Race 7) $6.50 with Sportsbet did fail at Sandown but he is coming off a win and looks well placed here.

Kibou (Race 8) is well above average, has won both starts this prep and trialled well.

BET: Riduna – Each Way ( Rosehill Race 5)

BET: Star Sparks – Each Way (Rosehill Race 7)

BET: Kibou – Win (Rosehill Race 8)

PRIDE AND POWER

Joe Pride is still looking for a dry track for Penso A Lei who was scratched on Thursday with the Newcastle track rated Heavy.

At Rosehill, Joe has the consistent Titanium Power $3.50 he’s been rock solid in the Sportsbet market and has a big fitness advantage over many of his rivals.

BET: Titanium Power – Each Way (Rosehill Race 6)

MAHER AND EUSTACE OFF TO A FLYER

No big shock that Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace made a flying start to the new season and we are certainly trusting their polish rubs off on your two Vic Husslers horses Lethal Thoughts and the Almanzor x Clemency filly.

At Caulfield, Thought of That (Race 1) is set to start the day well for their followers. $5.50 with Sportsbet Thought of That is first-up has good fresh form and plenty of ability.

She’s All Class (Race 3) was terrific with the big weight first-up but is 7 weeks between runs.

BET: Thought Of That – Each Way (Caulfield Race 1)

BET: She’s All Class – WIN (Caulfield Race 3)

HAYES LOOKING ON THE BRIGHTSIDE

Apart from Bellinger, when Ben Hayes was quizzed about the horse he was most looking forward to over Spring, he didn’t hesitate in declaring Mr Brightside as the star of the stable.

The Doncaster winner returns at Caulfield as a $3.50 hope with Sportsbet. His owners know how to celebrate and his trial effort was eye-catching.

Lady Of Honour (Race 4) is coming off an injury but her jump outs have been great.

BET: Lady Of Honour (Caulfield Race 4)

BET: Mr Brightside  – WIN (Caulfield Race 8)

PRICE IS LOVIN’YA

Nice report from Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior regarding the progress of Eureka Storm this week, let’s hope the newly gelding Vic Hussler continues to knuckle down.

I’mlovin’ya (Race 6) is really attractive at $7 with Sportsbet. She looks to be a really promising filly with 2 career starts for 1 win.

Lombardo (Race 7) has to carry a big weight, but the jump out was good and is coming off a win.

MUNCE IS SOAKING UP A HOT SPRING

It seems a while ago since we all cheered home Hot Spring Gold’s last start at Eagle Farm, let’s hope we get the heart racing again at Doomben on Saturday.

Yes, he has drawn barrier 13, but Hot Spring will get back and be charging home down the middle of the track.

Chris also has Southern Stock (Race 4). It has been a while since its last win, but was blocked for a run last start and caught the eye late.

BET: Hot Spring Gold – Each Way (Eagle Farm Race 9)

BET: Southern Stock – Win (Eagle Farm Race 4)

GOLLAN MARSHALLS THE TROOPS

A short one and a long odds hope from the Tony Gollan yard.

Ef Troop (Race 2) is up against the hot pot in Ice In Vancouver, but Ef Troop is resuming has won twice while fresh and is the better odds.

Tokoriki Lad (Race 8) is $10 with Sportsbet, smashed in from $14. He’s drawn barrier 1 and will need some luck but is big on ability.

BET: Ef Troop – Win (Eagle Farm Race 2)

BET: Tokoriki Lad – Each Way (Eagle Farm Race 8)

Good luck and good punting.

Cool Jakey was the King of Warwick Farm  on Wednesday and NSW Tycoons owners would like to package the Metropolitan track and just take it wherever Cool Jakey goes after he kept his undefeated record intact.

It’s remarkable that ‘Jakey’, trained on track and stabled across the road with Joe Pride, is one of those athletes, albeit of the equine kind, who thrives on his home ground.

He won on debut at Warwick Farm way back in February of 2023 and the love affair hasn’t ended, Cool Jakey has now won 4 from 4 at ‘The Farm’ and there’s plenty more wins in store for your son of Pierro.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
