WHERE CHAMPIONS ARE MADE – COX PLATE DAY
It’s the race where champions are made and there’s no doubt WS Cox Plate day is one of our great Australian races.
No TRL horses in the Cox Plate but there are 3 to watch in the coming days.
Larrikin Rogue will be hard to beat at Doomben. The Big Freeze heads to Moe on Saturday most likely but is also nominated for Sale on Sunday. While Maroon Magic makes her debut at Grafton on Tuesday.
Now let’s check out the major chances of your TRL trainers.
PRICE COULD STEAL THE COX PLATE
It’s fair to say that Anamoe and Zaaki look like the two to beat in the Cox Plate but don’t rule out the Mick Price trained I’m Thunderstruck at double-digit odds.
He was caught just on the line last time over 2000m by Anamoe and is now currently $14, he is a good each-way bet.
The other Price/Kent Jnr horse to keep an eye on is Wee Nessy (Race 4) at $8.50. She has good early speed and J-Mac has the ride. That’s good enough for me.

CIARON LOOKING FOR GOLD
Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace have a tough old warrior in Persan (Race 8) in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup at $4.60. He was great at Caulfield a fortnight ago and he never runs a bad race and the horse can stay all day.
At Randwick, Swat’s That (Race 9) has already been well-backed from $16 to $12 in the rich Invitational. She doesn’t win often enough but was ok last start at Randwick and worth a chance.

HAYES ALWAYS THE GENTLEMAN
We wish Vic Husslers trainers Ben and JD Hayes all the very best with Mr. Brightside in the Cox Plate.
Arkansaw Kid at $3 30 (Race 1) has won a couple of jump outs and looked good in the process.
Gentleman Roy (Race 6) at $6 was good in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap, is ultra consistent, winning 7 of 14 let’s stick with him.

MOODY AND THE BIG FREEZE
Vic Husslers trainer Peter Moody has nominated The Big Freeze for both Moe on Saturday and then Sale on Sunday. He looks like going to Moe and it looks a very winnable race.
Pete is certainly happy with the horse but needs to transfer his trackwork form into race day performances.
At the Valley, Do It La (Race 5) is a filly to watch for Moody. Rock solid in the market and runs very good sections and has a win against the older horses.

GAI THE BEST WITH THE BABIES
7 Golden Slippers to her credit there’s no doubt the Gai Waterhouse is a master at training the babies and she unveils another potential topliner on Saturday at Randwick called Coincide.
Coincide was a $320,000 purchase and a half brother to Converge who has trialed well and has been backed from $6 to $4 in early markets.

FREEDMAN HAPPY WITH ETCHED IN TIME
Richard and Will Freedman are delighted with what they’ve seen so far from 2-year-old Etched In Time, better than that Luna Rocks goes into pre training this week and Tycoons owners can’t wait to have her back.
On Saturday at Randwick the stable has Cognac (Race 4) he easily won the Bathurst Cup and we’ll sit up on the pace and always makes his own luck.

NEWNHAM LOVES A COFFEE
There is no guessing what sort of coffee NSW Tycoons trainer Mark Newnham enjoys, it’s got to be a latte.
Mark has Matcha Latte (Race 8) at the big odds of $14. He was second in the Gloaming and showed plenty of heart.

JOE AND COAL CRUSHER
For us fans of NSW Tycoons trainer Joe Pride we’ll need to be patient at Randwick.
Joe has Coal Crusher in Race 10. He has already been backed from $14 to $9, blinkers go on and the soft track will suit.

LARRIKIN ROGUE NEEDS TO HANDLE THE WET
Trainer Chris Anderson has no doubt Larrikin Rogue has been crying out for 1200m.
While it’s hard to forget his unbelievable win on a Soft track at the Sunshine Coast, Saturday’s heavy track could be a different matter. The horse is fit and ready to win but the conditions will play a major role. Good luck to everybody, he’s a very nice horse.

HEATHCOTE TO DO A DEAL
The Big Goodbye, who’s won 3 races for the Qld Rogues arrived back in Rob Heathcote’s stable this week and we are looking forward to Rob’s video reports as always.
En Pointe (Race 2) lost the rider last start, form before that was good and his one from one on a soft track.
Hatchet (Race 6) $6.50 to $5 has the advantage of the 2kg claim from Angela Jones and is 2 from 2 on Soft going.
Drive A Deel (Race 10) should be worth the wait, he’s won his last 2 starts and loves it wet.

GOLLAN IS A ROGUE
I don’t think there’s much doubt Tony Gollan is a true Queensland Rogue.
Proper Rogue (Race 8) is not a TRL horse but is a short priced favourite at $2.60 at Doomben. Proper Rogue is 3 from 3 on Heavy ground.
Ulysses (Race 9) isn’t always the most reliable conveyance but is already $6 into $4.60. His form has been okay without winning and he handles a Soft/Heavy track.
