TRL RUNNERS GALORE

Jan 20, 2023

3 TRL runners in the space of 4 days, it was to be 4 before the scratching of Helluva Barty at Doomben.

Bellinger tried hard as always on Thursday night at Pakenham for the Vic Husslers and finished fifth.

Looking ahead to our week of runners,

TRL RUNNERS THIS WEEK:

  • Bellinger, January 19 – 5th at Pakenham
  • The Big Goodbye, January 21- Doomben
  • Luna Rocks, January 22 Wyong or January 23 – Goulburn
  • Cool Jakey, January 23 Randwick Barrier Trial

Good luck to all Owners and now let’s check out the major chances of your TRL Trainers this Saturday.

THE BIG GOODBYE LOOKING FOR BACK-TO-BACK WINS

The Big Goodbye is TRL’s winningest horse and has already posted 4 wins for the Qld Rogues, there’s no reason he won’t make it 5 at Doomben.

He is getting up in the weights, does meet some tough opposition and it would be better if it was 1200m, in saying all that, the Big G will take some beating.

BET: The Big Goodbye – Each Way (Doomben Race 9)

BARTY SCRATCHED FOR THE ROGUES

The O’Dea/Hoysted camp acted on the side of caution with the scratching of Helluva Barty. He suffered a small cut on his leg during his emphatic win 10 days ago and the team just wasn’t completely happy with the way it’s healed.

Don’t worry there’s another sinister and plenty more races to come.

BET: Fleetwood Maca – Each Way (Doomben Race 8)

CHRIS MUNCE STILL CELEBRATING

Congratulations to the Munce stable on Centrefire winning the $1 million race at the Magic Millions on Thursday.

I reckon he can pick up another win with Delyth (Race 5) at Doomben. It’s been solid in the market at $4 and won three straight last prep.

BET: Delyth – Each Way (Doomben Race 5)

CHRIS ANDERSON MIGHT BE WEARING MINK

Banking on Qld Rogues trainer Chris Anderson getting us off to a flying start at Doomben with Minks Star in Race 2.

He’s been smashed in early markets $18 to $9 drops back in grade and looks like a nice value bet.

BET: Minks Star – Each Way (Doomben Race 2)

GOLLAN HASN’T STOPPED SMILING

Tony Gollan hasn’t stopped smiling after winning the $2 million Magic Millions 2yo Classic with Skirt The Law and why would he?

I’ve narrowed all his chances at Doomben down to just one in the form of Vaccine in Race 7. She finished well to be placed at the Goldie last start and can improve.

BET: Vaccine – Each Way (Doomben Race 7)

MARK NEWNHAM TO THE FORE

Mark Newnham reports all is well with Cool Jakey who steps out for the first time at the Randwick barrier trials on Monday.

He won’t be out to break the clock but Mark is delighted by his progress.

At Randwick, Mark rates Lavish Empire his bet with Chenin an unlikely starter if the track is rain affected.

BET: Lavish Empire  – Each Way (Randwick Race 5)

BET: Chenin – Each Way (Randwick Race 7)

HAYES ACROSS TWO STATES

Lindsay Park has two great chances at good odds across two different states.

At Randwick, Helene Leadingstar is an import and a former SA Derby winner, whose two runs back have been good.

At Moonee Valley, So Si Bon, won like a good thing last start and can win again.

BET: Helene Leadingstar – Each Way  (Randwick Race 4)

BET: So Si Bon – Each Way (MV Race 8)

MOODY ON FIRE

The Pete Moody stable continues to fire on all cylinders.

At Moonee Valley, Shuffle Dancer should win Race 4 but is odds on.

Dance To Dubai, is $3, goes forward, won from in front last start and can win again.

Hennessy Lad, $4.80 was strong to the line last start and the 1600m should suit.

BET: Dance To Dubai – Win  (MV Race 7)

BET: Hennessy Lad – Each Way (MV Race 9)

MAHER/EUSTACE ON THE TOOLS

The Ciaron Maher/Dave Eustace camp spent up big at the Magic Millions including a precocious Dubious filly for the Vic Husslers.

The best of their many chances on the weekend to me looks to be Ice Pick Nick with Jamie Kah in the saddle is now third-up so nice and fit.

BET: Ice Pick Nick  – Each Way (MV Race 6)

Good luck and good punting!

TRL RUNNERS GALORE

Jan 20, 2023

Cool Jakey was the King of Warwick Farm  on Wednesday and NSW Tycoons owners would like to package the Metropolitan track and just take it wherever Cool Jakey goes after he kept his undefeated record intact.

It’s remarkable that ‘Jakey’, trained on track and stabled across the road with Joe Pride, is one of those athletes, albeit of the equine kind, who thrives on his home ground.

He won on debut at Warwick Farm way back in February of 2023 and the love affair hasn’t ended, Cool Jakey has now won 4 from 4 at ‘The Farm’ and there’s plenty more wins in store for your son of Pierro.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
