NEW SEASON MORE WINNERS

Aug 5, 2022

It’s a brand new season of racing. All your horses have celebrated another birthday and are ready to continue their great success at the track.

Lethal Thoughts took his first step towards a Caulfield Guineas appearance with a barrier trial on Friday, Luna Rocks progressing beautifully for the Tycoons while the unbeaten Larrikin Rogue is back in work for the Rogues.

Time to check out the major chances from your trainers this Saturday.

TRENT BUSUTTIN SET TO SPRING THE GATES

Vic Husslers trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are looking to fly the gates at the first Saturday meeting of the new season where they will be racing on a Slow track at Flemington.

Proscenium Arch (Race 1) currently a $5 chance with Sportsbet got through the wet ground on debut like Ian Thorpe and with the sting out of the track and chalk up another win.

He’s Our Bonneval (Race 6) will need some luck from barrier 12, but is third-up now and ready to win again.

CIARON MAHER/DAVE EUSTACE SET NEW RECORD

Congratulations on a couple of fronts to the power training combo of Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace.

The pair set a new winning record for the 2021/22 season plus Vic Husslers owners voted them to train the Almanzor x Clemency filly.

At Flemington, Quintello (race 2) is tight in the market at $3 and has been freshened up for this and simply got too far back last start and camp closer here and win.

Lord Paramount (Race 3) has been really good it’s two starts back but had little luck. Now third-up and ready to rock.

Blue Cup (Race 4) now it’s third run in Australia, was trapped wide last time out with a better passage and deliver third-up.

High Emocean (Race 7) has been well supported into $4.50 caught the eye last start and jumping up to 2500 m is only a bonus. Stablemate Through Irish Eyes is the danger.

BET: Quintello – Win (Flem Race 2)

BET: Lord Paramount – Each Way (Flem Race 3)

BET: Blue Cup – Each Way (Flem Race 4)

BET: High Emocean – Each Way (Flem Race 7)

STEVE ODEA HAS HIT THE ROAD

Mostly it’s the southern trainers sending their horses north, but this Saturday Qld Rogues trainer Steve O’Dea is heading south to Flemington with Shooting for Gold in Race 5.

A $4.20 chance and with the booking of Jamie Kah Shooting For Gold will be hard to beat.

At Doomben, Hang Five (Race 1) is a promising gelding coming off a good trial win but is up against the hot pot Spiritualised.

Rich Lister (Race 3) is currently at $5 with Sportsbet and did win first-up this track last preparation.

WATERHOUSE/BOTT ON THE MARK

The Waterhouse/Bott stable is looking to continue their great end to the previous season this weekend on a Heavy track at Royal Randwick.

Embracer (Race 8) is a $7.50 hope up against the classy Forbidden Love who’ll get conditions to suit. Embracer was good enough to be an Everest contender last year and only had one run last campaign pulling up lame.

BET: Embracer – Each Way (Randwick Race 8)

PRIDE HAS A LADY

NSW Tycoons trainer Joe Pride continues to look for a firm track for Penso A Lei, let’s hope the weather remains good leading up to Newcastle on Thursday.

Lady Brook has drawn terribly in barrier 14, despite that she’s having a good prep and is coming off a good win on a Heavy track at Randwick last start.

GOLLAN FAST OFF THE LINE

Congratulations to Tony Gollan, who’s now a 9 Time Premiership Winning Trainer in Brisbane.

Proper Rogue (Race 4) is tight in the market at $3.80 and has come up with an awkward draw (11) but is well placed here third-up coming off a win.

Garibaldi (Race 8) Gollan has elected to use the 3kg claim of apprentice Angela Jones, it had no luck last start and to be honest is long overdue for a win.

Knight Mariner (Race 9) is a talented galloper and at $6.50 is a big watch first-up.

BET: Proper Rogue – Win (Doomben Race 4)

FREEDMAN’S COULD HAVE A SNEAKY ONE

Richard and Will Freedman report that Luna Rocks has thrived since her opening barrier trial which is a good sign.

The father-son combo have Soffika (Race 9) at Randwick. Soffika is coming off a strong race last time out, just missed a place but did catch the eye late. Should now be ready to show its best third-up. Something small each way.

BET: Soffika – Each Way (Randwick Race 9)

Good luck and good punting.

NEW SEASON MORE WINNERS

Aug 5, 2022

Cool Jakey was the King of Warwick Farm  on Wednesday and NSW Tycoons owners would like to package the Metropolitan track and just take it wherever Cool Jakey goes after he kept his undefeated record intact.

It’s remarkable that ‘Jakey’, trained on track and stabled across the road with Joe Pride, is one of those athletes, albeit of the equine kind, who thrives on his home ground.

He won on debut at Warwick Farm way back in February of 2023 and the love affair hasn’t ended, Cool Jakey has now won 4 from 4 at ‘The Farm’ and there’s plenty more wins in store for your son of Pierro.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
