A DAY TO REMEMBER FOR NSW TYCOONS

May 3, 2025

WOW – Talk about a thrilling day out at the track.

The NSW Tycoons went within centimetres of bookending the feature Hawkesbury Standalone Meeting with Northern Eyes and Cool Jakey on a memorable day at the track.

Northern Eyes was ridden a treat by Anna Roper but just nutted on the line in the first race. While there was no denying Cool Jakey, who was given a peach of a ride from Adam Hyeronimus, leading from barrier to box in what was truly the lucky last!

JAKEY AS COOL AS EVER

“That was fantastic, guys, couldn’t be happier with the old bloke, he’s run us another fantastic race,” quipped trainer Joe Pride amidTycoons’ cheers and celebrations which were continuing in the mounting yard at Hawkesbury.

This was a tough win, “Jakey” wasn’t given it all his way. He flew the gates and went forward, but the favourite Gallant Star sat on his backside the whole way and applied the pressure from the 600m, and despite having the sitting shot he still couldn’t get past Jakey on the long Hawkesbury straight.

“A tenacious win, he’s banking these Saturday wins, and this is the best preparation he’s had for us.

“I just think he is racing more consistently and better than ever,”. Joe concluded.

NORTHERN EYES KIM SO PROUD

“Geez, I thought he (Northern Eyes) deserved a win on Saturday,” trainer Kim Waugh said as Northern Eyes picked at some grass on Monday morning just out the back of the stables at Wyong.

To be fair, his last start was a total forgivable run at Randwick where Northern Eyes got put in a pocket at the top of the straight, and that’s where he stayed.

“Really good to see him come back after Randwick and do what I’m seeing him do here. He’s been working fabulously.

“I thought he was home and he’s pulled up well and trotted up good. All good news here.” Kim said.

WHAT NEXT FOR BOTH HORSES

The plan for Cool Jakey is pretty simple.

Initially, he has pulled up well, and it’s just a matter of finding another wet track for him, and he’ll be hard to beat again, according to Joe Pride.

While for Northern Eyes, Kim will search for another Midway, most likely, and there’s one at Randwick over 1400m on May 24. Who knows, it may be another double act for the Tycoons.

TYCOONS FOR THE BARRIER FOR THE BIG CASH

The Win and a Second from Cool Jakey and Northern Eyes have given the Tycoons a flying start in the race for the BIG CASH for Month 7 of TRL Season 4, and both are due to have another start before the end of May.

In saying that, the Qld Rogues and the Vic Husslers are just about to come out of a quiet period and will be stern opposition for the rest of the TRL Season.

Go you good thing!
