Another big week for TRL owners

May 6, 2022

By Terry Kennedy

It’s been another massive week for our TRL owners with the The Big Goodbye going within centimeters of causing a boilover at Eagle Farm.

The Queensland Rogues will be cheering again this weekend when Hot  Spring Gold steps out for the first time in their colors at Ipswich on Saturday or the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

While the New South Wales Tycoons have the mighty Sherpa racing at Muswellbrook on Monday.

Time to find some winners from our TRL trainers.

MUNCE TO STRIKE GOLD  WITH HOT SPRING

There are plenty of good judges that believe Hot Spring Gold could be the best of TRLs tried horses.

He is a Randwick Saturday Sydney winner which is pretty impressive and that form should hold up whether Chris take him to Ipswich on Saturday or the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

The big problem is we don’t want a heavy track.

GOSFORD TO STANDALONE

Gosford gets its big chance to host a standalone meeting this Saturday but still its on a Heavy track.

As always the Waterhouse/Bott stable will be extremely hard to beat with Gosford favouring runners on speed.

Resonator (Race 1)is a $3.20 chance at Sportsbet. It’s had two starts for one win on a heavy track and I’m happy to stick.

Military Mission (Race 5) has to overcome a horror draw barrier 12 but looked great winning two starts back at Canterbury over 2000m and has been well supported at Sportsbet $6 to $4.20.

BET: Resonator – Win (Gosford Race 1)

BET: Military Mission – Each Way (Gosford Race 5)

PRIDE WILL BE TOUGH TO BEAT

NSW Tycoons trainer Joe Pride has two outstanding chances at the Gosford meeting.

Dehorned Unicorn (Race 4) Won its first to start last prep is first up here and has been well supported in the Sportsbet only markets $3.60.

You have to be patient but Joe’s are the big chance comes in race 10 Cole Crusher who’s rated $6 with sports bed has won both starts this prep any 3 from 3 on a heavy track he can make it for from four.

BET: Dehorned Unicorn – Win (Gosford Race 4)

BET: Coal Crusher – Each Way (Gosford Race 10)

CAV IS FEELING BLUE

Trainer Brett Cavanagh has entered The Sherpa at Muswellbrook on Monday but he’ll be concentrating on a horse called Sungblue $6 with Sportsbet at Gosford on Saturday.

Sungblue, $6.50 finished a good third last start at Tamworth behind the dramatist that looks like good form for this race.

BET: Sungblue – Each Way (Gosford Race 2)

PRICE & KENT TO THE FORE

We’d like to wish Vic Husslers combo of Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr all the best with Aryton against the mighty Zaaki in the Hollindale Cup on the Gold Coast.

The duo has the very talented Our Playboy $4 80 at Gosford (Race 9). Last time out beat all except Mr Mozart who came out and blew them away last Saturday at Hawkesbury.

The boys should get off to a flyer at Caulfield with Maximillius, $2 70 on Sportsbet. He may have been unplaced at his only start, but reports have him as a promising type.

BET: Maximillius – Win (Caulfield Race 1)

BET: Our Playboy – Each Way (Gosford Race 9)

MOODY HAS A PRINCE

Peter Moody looks like he has a promising filly in Princess Rhaenys Race 2 at Caulfield it is short in the market at $3.90 but has form around good horses like Hungry Heart.

Dance To Dubai (Race 3) is $6 with Sportsbet. Moody has elected to take a 2-kilo claim, she is first up and has never finished worse and second when fresh.

BET: Princess Rhaenys – Each Way (Caulfield Race 2)

BET: Dance to Dubai – Each Way (Caulfield Race 3)

MAHER/EUSTACE ALWAYS PAY TO FOLLOW

Ciaron Maher may be feeling a little worse for wear after a week at the famous Warrnambool Jumps Carnival.

But it won’t stop him celebrating at Caulfield with Blaze A Trail (Race 6) which should go close to winning. Blaze A Trail won first-up last prep so watch for market moves.

Elzamee (Race 8) is back significantly in grade from contesting the Australian Derby last start and should relish the lesser opposition.

BET: Blaze A Trail Each Way (Caulfield Race 6)

BET: Elzamee Each Way (Caulfield Race 8)

GOLLAN LOVES LYRICAL GIRL

Our micro-ownership cousins miRunners have the very talented Lyrical Girl in Race 2 at the Gold Coast. Barrier 2 is ideal and while she was disappointing last start this is an easier assignment.

Nettuno (Race 4) $2.00 with Sportsbet is a super talented colt that has won 2 from 2 including a win against our very own Greylander at the Sunny Coast. Stick with Nettuno.

BET: Lyrical Girl – Each Way (Gold Coast Race 2)

BET: Nettuno – Win (Gold Coast Race 4)

O’DEA IS SHOOTING FOR GOLD

The Hoysted-O’Dea stable could easily walk away from the Gold Coast with a double.

Canadian Dancer (Race 6) has won his last two starts and while the stable also has Secret Tales in the race, I’m banking on the booking of Ben Thompson to be the difference.

There’s no fancy odds about Shooting for Gold (Race 9) it’s tight in the market with Sportsbet being backed in from $3.60 to $2.60 but he was really good as a runner-up last start in a listed race.

BET:Canadian Dancer – Each Way (Gold Coast Race 6)

BET: Shooting For Gold – Win (Gold Coast Race 9)

Good luck and good punting.
