Are you ready for the G1 ROAR?

Jun 9, 2022

Does it get any better than having a runner in a Group 1?

The JJ Atkins isn’t any Group 1, it’s worth $1 million and happens to be a stallion making race.

Congratulations to all our Vic Husslers owners who surely are living the dream and a massive good luck to Lethal Thoughts in Saturday’s big one at Eagle Farm.

Keep reading for Ciaron Maher’s thoughts on the chances of Lethal Thoughts plus we’ll try and find some winners from our other TRL trainers.

MAHER AND EUSTACE ARE LOOKING LETHAL

We all agree with Ciaron Maher when he quipped “how good would it be to give the Vic Husslers a stallion prospect” said Lethal Thought’s trainer in build up to the JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm.

Maher concedes, that barrier 18 makes the task “more difficult” but the horse has continued to improve, traveled well and is ready to run a big race.

The stable has a couple of other outstanding hopes on Saturday.

Easy Single (Randwick Race 6) $5.40 with Sportsbet, this horse is a winner with 4 wins from 9 starts, looked very good winning at Flemington.

The Gauch (Sandown Race 2) $4 he is a consistent galloper who never lets you down.

Unusual Culture (Sandown Race 5) $6.50 Sportsbet is a talented 3yo filly who’s resuming here but looked good at the jump outs.

CHRIS ANDERSON HITTING FORM

It’s early days but Qld Rogues trainer Chris Anderson is extremely happy with what he sees in the Flying Artie x Laylia gelding.

Chris has Minks Star (Eagle Farm Race 1) that may be worth an interest. He’s $12 with Sportsbet was enormous last week and drops in grade here.

O’DEA/HOYSTED OFF TO A FLYER

Scallopini (Eagle Farm Race 2) has provided plenty of thrills for his owners including Penrith Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher a great supporter of The Racing League.

This is a small but even field, Scallopini ran well in the Kingsford Smith last start drops in grade here and is a good each way bet.

Tumbler Ridge (Eagle Farm Race 5) is over the odds at $14 with Sportsbet is resuming here and great each way chance.

MARK NEWNHAM BACK AT HOME

Trainer Mark Newnham took Dragonstone to Melbourne last week where he raced extremely well on an unsuitable track.

Dragonstone (Randwick Race 8) is now back at home, will get out the back but be storming home.

BET: Dragonstone – Win (Randwick Race 8)

FREEDMAN STARS UNDER LIGHTS

Will Freedman looked right at home in front of the cameras when he played a leading role in a new TRL television commercial that will hit your screens soon.

On Saturday, Will and Richard have a roughie I’m prepared to stick with on a more suitable drier track. On The Lead $19 looked great winning at Eagle Farm two starts back and can run some great sectionals.

JOE PRIDE IN FORM

I’m not saying Joe Pride can’t win the Stradbroke with one of my favourite horses Private Eye but he has top weight and it won’t be easy.

I am prepared to have something each way Mariamia (EF Race 9) who’s coming off a slashing last start win and while it’s up in grade, it can win again.

WATERHOUSE/BOTT LOOK STRONG AT RANDWICK

Gai Waterhouse is getting ready for a big week at Royal Ascot, Adrian has a couple of runners at Randwick who’ll be extremely hard to beat.

Nothinsweetaboutme Randwick Race 5 is a winner, she’s won 5 of 10 and won first-up.

Mr Dependable $11 (Randwick Race 7) had to work hard first-up has a good second up record and is good value at $11.

PRICE TO THE STRADDY

You would imagine there’s a touch of trepidation from the Mick Price yard with Aryton ($6 with Sportsbet) heading into the prestigious Stradbroke Handicap.

Ayrton looked great winning first-up but flopped second-up where he pulled up lame.

At Sandown, Visinari (Race 7) looks like a good thing after no luck when second last start, before winning the two starts before.

BET: Visinari – WIN (Sandown Race 7)

 Good luck and good punting.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
