CAN TEAM CAPTAIN WIN ANOTHER CUP

Nov 25, 2022

It’s another big weekend for owners in The Racing League, with the leader of the Vic Husslers – Team Captain heading to Caulfield for the Listed Sandown Cup.

While at 5.25 pm Friday, the mighty Bellinger travels to Wodonga looking to post his fourth win for the Husslers.

Sidenay is nominated at Gosford on Wednesday for the NSW Tycoons, while there’s great excitement regarding the return to the trials on Monday of Luna Rocks.

UPCOMING RUNNERS THIS WEEK:

  • Bellinger: Friday, Nov 25 – Wodonga
  • Team Captain: Saturday, Nov 26 – Sandown Cup (Caulfield)
  • Luna Rocks: Monday, Nov 28 – Hawkesbury Barrier Trial #9
  • Sidenay: Wednesday, Nov 30 – Gosford

Good luck to all Owners and now let’s check out the major chances of your TRL Trainers this Saturday.

CUMANI COULDN’T BE HAPPIER WITH TEAM CAPTAIN

“I’m getting very excited about Team Captain, he’s in great shape and ready to run better than ever,” trainer Matt Cumani said.

Looking at the Sandown Cup it’s only a small field and there doesn’t appear to be a great deal of speed in the race. Ideally, Team Captain who is the $3.25 favourite should be able to get a nice run behind the leading pair and he gives every indication that the 3200m will suit him down to the ground.

BELLINGER DRAWS BARRIER ONE

“It’s impossible to fault Bellinger’s trackwork in the lead-up to the Wodonga race, from the good barrier he should get a good smother and be able to unleash his powerful finishing burst,” trainer JD Hayes said.

At Caulfield, Crosshaven is the best of the Hayes runners at $7.50.

LUNA READY TO GO TO THE TRIALS

Richard and Will Freedman reported during the week that talented filly Luna Rocks appears to be back to her old self, now that is really good news.

Luna will have a soft barrier trial on Monday at Hawkesbury.

Don’t forget to have something on Juan Diva (Race 7) at the Gold Coast, she’ll be hard to beat.

LETHAL THOUGHTS RETURNS FOR CIARON MAHER

Nice to get the news this week that Lethal Thoughts will return to pre-training next week in preparation for a big Autumn campaign.

At Caulfield, the most intriguing of Ciaron’s runner has to be Bruckner (Race 3). This horse is resuming after finishing second in the Group 1 Coolmore Stakes behind Home Affairs.

It’s a big task but looked good in a recent Hawkesbury barrier trial big watch on the market.

MARK NEWNHAM NOT LONG TO WAIT FOR COOL JAKEY

Great news from Emeran Park this week that Cool Jakey has returned to pre-training and it won’t be long till he returns to Mark Newnham’s Randwick stable.

Mark has a couple of great hopes at Rosehill, the best backed being Sunshine Rising (Race 8) which has firmed from $8 into $5.50.

While an old favourite of ours Dragonstone was a real eye catcher last week and can win Race 9.

WAUGH HAS SIDENAY FULL OF CONFIDENCE

NSW Tycoons trainer Kim Waugh was delighted with the confidence boosting effort of Sidenay at Gosford.

Sidenay definitely looks like he is on the right track and returns to Gosford on Wednesday with a real shot.

At Rosehill, Kim can cause an upset with French Bonnet who’s a $14 chance after just missing victory on the line last start.

MAROON MAGIC READY FOR A CHANGE OF LUCK

Nothing went right for Maroon Magic last week after a riderless horse terrorized her on the way to the barrier. She was a well-beaten odds-on favourite but had a thousand genuine excuses.

The Gold Coast is the main meeting in South East Queensland and Toby and Trent Edmonds have two cracking chances in Frederick The Dane (Race 1) who was only just caught on the line last start and will again be hard to beat.

While Storm The Fortress (Race 4) has had two starts for two wins and can make it three.

GOLLAN HAS GREYLANDER HUMMING

Tony Gollan is searching for another suitable race for the return of Greylander after he was scratched last Wednesday, we will let you know as soon as Tony makes a call.

Meantime, we like Vaccine (Race 5) at the Gold Coast. She won 2 starts back and wasn’t disgraced at the Southport track last start.

We’ve also been with Shamaton (Race 6) it’s last couple of starts which have been good without winning. Let’s stick for one more time.

ROB HEATHCOTE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE BIG G AND CAXTON LASS

Rob Heathcote is not far away from having two Qld Rogues horses in his yard with Caxton Lass entering pre-training at Emeran Park before heading north to join The Big Goodbye.

Rob’s best two chances at the Gold Coast appear to be Drive A Deel (Race 3) she’s won her last 3 and should make it 4 in a row.

Release The Beans (Race 9) has been a little easy in early markets but was a solid third last start.

BET: Drive A Deel – Win (Gold Coast Race 3)

BET: Release The Beans – Each Way (Gold Coast Race 9)

Good luck and good punting.

CAN TEAM CAPTAIN WIN ANOTHER CUP

Nov 25, 2022

Cool Jakey was the King of Warwick Farm  on Wednesday and NSW Tycoons owners would like to package the Metropolitan track and just take it wherever Cool Jakey goes after he kept his undefeated record intact.

It’s remarkable that ‘Jakey’, trained on track and stabled across the road with Joe Pride, is one of those athletes, albeit of the equine kind, who thrives on his home ground.

He won on debut at Warwick Farm way back in February of 2023 and the love affair hasn’t ended, Cool Jakey has now won 4 from 4 at ‘The Farm’ and there’s plenty more wins in store for your son of Pierro.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
