COOL AT RANDWICK, HOT AT DOOMBEN

Apr 7, 2023

By Terry Kennedy

Happy Easter everyone!

It’s a weekend of extreme weather conditions for owners in TRL.

Cool Jakey steps out in the $160,000 South Pacific Classic at Royal Randwick, while also on Saturday Hot Spring Gold is chasing his fourth win for the Qld Rogues.

Both head to the races in great order, keep reading for more details.

TRL UPCOMING RUNNERS :

Cool Jakey – April 8, Royal Randwick

Hot Spring Gold – April 8, Doomben

Luna Rocks – April 14, barrier trial Warwick Farm

Larrikin Rogue – April 22, Doomben

Lethal Thoughts – April 22, Mornington Guineas

The Big Goodbye – May 6, Sunshine Coast

Another important date is the Quarterly Prizemoney Payout which will take place between April 11 – 14.

Good luck to all owners now let’s check out the major chances for your TRL Trainers this Saturday.

COOL JAKEY TO CRUISE THE SOUTH PACIFIC

Not only do you own a runner on Day 2 of the Championships with Cool Jakey, but you own a favourite on one of the most prestigious days on the racing calendar.

Your trainer Mark Newnham has Cool Jakey ‘cherry ripe’ for the South Pacific Classic which is Race 2. He’s currently the $5 favourite which indicates he is a big chance.

“From the barrier we will be positive, his work on Tuesday morning was very good and he should get a track with some give in it which he loves,” Mark said.

Hoping Mark can win a double on the day with King Frankel in the Sydney Cup – Race 7.

HOT SPRING READY TO BUBBLE

The bookmakers have always been generous with Hot Spring Gold and Saturday appears no different. At $18 he appears to be an enormous odds to me and happy to take up the challenge.

“We had the choice of two races, but despite the big weight and wide barrier, our team thinks this is the right race and if he (Hot Spring Gold) produces his final sprint like we know he can, he will give this race a mighty shake,” trainer Chris Munce said.

I also like Sea Ripple from the Munce yard in Race 5, she’s 2 from 2 at Doomben.

GAI & ADRIAN GO FISHING WITH WHITE MARLIN

TRL owners or VIC Husslers in particular will remember White Marlin storming away with last year’s Macca’s Run trophy from the defending champion and their very own Team Captain.

White Marlin is undefeated and could be one right out of the box, so happy to take the $3 in Race 8 at Sandown.

At Randwick, Autumn Ballet (Race 3) is a very smart 2yo filly, while Alcohol Free who cost $10 million can win Race 9 and recoup some money for his owners.

BIG DAY FOR RICHARD & WILL FREEDMAN

Richard and Will Freedman appear to be working their magic with two-time winner for NSW Tycoons in Luna Rocks who will trial again on April 14 being much more relaxed.

Their horse Pavitra has been an extremely good horse to us, and I’m sticking strong on Saturday in the Oaks. One warning is the stable doesn’t want it too wet for her and she’s a skinny quote at $3.70.

BET: Pavitra – Win (Randwick Race 6)

BET: Juan Diva – Each Way (Randwick Race 10)

BET: Pharaoh’s Reign – Each Way (Doomben 3)

CIARON AND DAVE TO HAVE A DAY OUT AT SANDOWN

Narrowed down all the Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace runners to three good hopes at Sandown.

Royal Merchant, race 2 has been well backed and looks well placed.

Danaustar, race 4, has been smashed from $15 into $8 and was trapped on the wrong side of the track last start.

Gringotts, race 6 has won its last two starts and also has been well supported.

PRICE & KENT TO STAR

Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior have two good hopes at attractive odds across two states.

At Randwick, Wee Nessy has arguably been the best backed runner of the week firming from $26 into $10.

At Sandown, Ayrton was touted as a superstar at one stage and while he hasn’t lived up to the early hype makes appeal here at $5.

O’DEA/HOYSTED

Just one for me from the O’Dea/Hoysted yard in the form of Birriecart in Race 7 at Doomben.

It is a winner of 4 from 8 starts, likes to go forward and enjoys some give in the track.

Good luck and good punting!
