Cool Jakey’s undefeated run has come to an end when finishing third at Randwick on Wednesday but he lost no admirers.
With a big group of NSW Tycoons on hand at headquarters to cheer him on Cool Jakey was supported into favouritism despite drawing the extreme outside barrier over 1400m on the Kensington track.
The wide barrier was always a concern and when Cool Jakey missed the start by a length, jockey Tyler Schiller found himself in a difficult position. Tyler elected to go forward but was forced to work too hard to cross and lead. In saying that Cool Jakey led until the final 50 metres before being swamped and finishing third.
“If he draws anywhere inside half he’s definitely a winner.” jockey Tyler Schiller said post-race.
“He did a lovely job, he breathed along and tracked along nice into the straight, thought he gave a great kick. He was tenacious and I thought he fought well.”
Mark Newnham will assess how Cool Jakey pulls up today and make a decision on where he should go next.
