Magic Millions – TRL Owners Strike Gold with 3 Superstar yearlings

Jan 23, 2025

TRL Owners striked gold at Magic Millions and will be ecstatic with the purchase of three superstar yearlings at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.

We are in the business of dreams and the intention is to have all 3 back on the Coast this time next year competing in the $5 million 2YO Classic.

The glitz and glamour of the ‘Goldie’ was the conclusion of a long and exhaustive process where the TRL Bloodstock Team inspected close to a thousand yearlings before narrowing down a shortlist for each of the four days of the sales.

While the “Proof is always in the tasting of the pudding” the team is extremely happy with your purchases and left the sales complex declaring “I reckon we shopped well.”

LOT 81 – A STRIKING COLT BY GOLDEN SLIPPER WINNER STAY INSIDE WILL JOIN THE NSW TYCOONS

Stay Inside was a dominant winner of the Group 1 Golden Slipper, posting an impressive 105.7 WFA performance rating and is a winning son of extreme choice.

While having a Slipper winner as a Dad is pretty impressive, this colt’s mother Voila, won 5 races herself and nearly $300,000 in prize money.

Her sire is Choisir, who has become the broodmare sire of 5 x Group 1 winners including the sensational In Secret.

LOT 302 – A PRECOCIOUS FILLY BY PALACE PIER

From the family of champion sprinter Alinghi is a Vic Hussler and will be raced in partnership with Lindsay Park.

Palace Pier became the first horse in 25 years to win back-to-back runnings of the G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois and crowned Cartier Champion Three-Year-Old, Champion Miler and Champion Older Horse

On the dam side of your filly she hails from a daughter of the freakish Alinghi, who won 4x G1’s (inc. the Blue Diamond at 2), and this filly is closely related to SPICY MARTINI and Spicy Legend.

This combination with being sired by Palace Pier, delivers a potentially potent combination of Australian 2yo speed, and that of a European Champion Miler.

Proudly wearing his Vic Husslers cap trainer Ben Hayes couldn’t hide his smile and excitement when the hammer dropped in our favour at $230,000.

LOT 720 – A ROCKET FILLY FROM CHAMPION SIRE ZOUSTAR FOR THE QLD ROGUES

She was a “must-have” for the Bloodstock team waiting till the very last Lot of Day 3 before pouncing and will be raced in a 50/50 partnership with Telemon Stud, which has produced the likes of Zoustar, Buffering, and Gold Edition making it pound-for-pound one of the great farms.

Her sire Zoustar was also the father of the winner of the Magic Millions 2yo Classic in Sunlight, among other progeny in Zougotcha,Ozzmosis and Joliestar.

The dam of this filly Niccovi ran 2nd in the Magic Millions Perth 2yo Classic.

This filly’s Zoustar/Niccovi cross creates a potentially lethal combination of speed, stamina, and class. This combination of Zoustar’s explosive speed and Niccovi’s own group level sprinting ability and proven pedigree inject durability and tenacity into the mix.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
