Sidenay the King of Taree

Feb 7, 2024

By Terry Kennedy

It may have taken him 16 starts to break his Maiden but no one can ever accuse Sidenay of not having a ‘red hot go’ for the NSW Tycoons.

On Friday (February 2), Sidenay posted win number TWO by careering away with the Class 1 over 1312m at guess what track?

You’re right again it was Taree. That’s 2 starts for 2 wins at the track.

MILLIE THOMPSON RISING STAR

You may not know much about Millie Thompson but this young lady is the new pin-up girl for the NSW Tycoons after guiding Sidenay to victory and in the process gaining thousands of new fans in the form of the Tycoons ownership base.

Millie is apprenticed to your trainer Kim Waugh at Wyong and leading into her ride on Sidenay had only had one race ride for a win that was on Damascus Gate not trained by Kim.

Sidenay was Millie’s first ride for her boss Kim and she delivered in spades. One ride for the boss for one win, surely there will be no ‘mucking out the boxes’ on Monday for this apprentice on the rise.

RESULT NEVER IN DOUBT

Millie Thompson claims 4kgs which allowed Sidenay to drop from his allotted 57kgs to 53kgs and Millie made the most of the weight advantage.

She bounced Sidenay to the front from the gates, there was some early pressure but Millie held her nerve, and weathered the early storm.

Sidenay relaxed well under Millie and the pair were never challenged in the straight and there was no need for Millie to even draw the whip. In fact, Sidenay was going better than any of his rivals to and through the line.

 NEXT STEPS

That’s 2 wins and 2 seconds this campaign for Sidenay, and a further 13,950 points on the ladder for Month 4, as at 7th Feb, the Tycoons have notched up 2 wins from 3 starts and have amassed 56,800 points for the month, a lead of 49,600 points over the Rogues. Just like Sidenay & Millie the Blues are out in front, can QLD & VIC challenge them or will the $10,000 monthly cash prize for finishing 1st go to NSW for a second time this season?

As for Sidenay, Kim is never one to rush into what’s next and  she has picked out a few likely targets:

  • 16th February Tamworth BM58 1600m
  • 23rd February Quirindi BM58 1450m
  • 24th February Tuncurry C2 1300m

As always Kim and the team will keep everyone all owners informed.

Well done Sidenay, Go you good thing!
