THE CAPTAIN SALUTES

Owners of the Vic Husslers 6 Horse Racing Team can now call themselves Cup winners – now that’s cool.

Okay, it wasn’t a Caulfield Cup or a Melbourne Cup but it was a horse they own, Yulong Captain winning the Hamilton Cup on Saturday on the prestigious Country Cup circuit in Victoria.

As one Vic Hussler owner stated “he didn’t just win, he s..t in”. You can probably guess the missing letters, but he was spot on.

Yulong Captain was having his first start for trainer Matt Cumani after being bought at a recent Inglis online digital sale. “The Captain” was coming off a last start win seven weeks ago and Cumani headed to the Hamilton Cup confident this regally bred son of champion sire Galielo would give a bold sight.

But it was the authority of the victory which pleased Cumani the most. “That was a good win, he is a really nice horse, who can stay all day, the further they go the better he’ll get” Cumani said.

Clearly, Matt is a blue blood of the international racing scene, but he has impressed all owners with his level of communication and his handling of Yulong Captain.

Not only is Cumani well regarded, but he’s also a humble bloke more Aussie than English.

When congratulated by TRL management on the Hamilton Cup victory Matt simply responded with “thanks for finding me such a beautiful horse”.

Cumani will keep all owners informed of the next step but he is still eyeing off a 2800 metre race on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington. Now that would be a day to remember for Vic Husslers owners!

Congrats and Go the Vic Husslers.
