This Weekend in Racing: Spring is Heating Up!

Sep 25, 2020

The Warmer weather has struck Sydney and Spring is definitely in the air.

The Golden Rose is clearly the feature at Rosehill Gardens, it’s only a small but select field of 9 lining-up with much of the talk about the lack of early pace in the 1400m Group One for three year-olds.

Rothfire is the rightful favourite, but extremely tight in the market after that race record win in the Run To The Rose last start.

The reports from the Rob Heathcote stable is that Rothfire has “done well” and only “improved” in the past fortnight while stabled at Randwick.

North Pacific was good in running third to Rothfire last start, but his two impressive wins have been on heavy tracks.

Keen video watchers will tell you Ole Kirk was an enormous run last start and may be the value runner in Saturday’s big race.

Such is the popularity of Rothfire, the Brisbane Racing Club has opened up Eagle Farm for a phantom meeting to cheer on the local cult hero.

At Caulfield, there’s the preludes for the Caulfield Guineas and the Thousand Guineas.

But it’s the time Underwood Stakes where’s there’s most interest with the second favourite for the Melbourne Cup steps out in the form of Russian Camelot.

The Danny O’Brien trained galloper was super impressive last start when despite a torrid run in transit he finished an admirable second in the Makybe Diva Stakes when resuming last start.

Perth’s darling Arcadia Queen will push Russian Camelot all the way. She’s tenacious and is now third up, fully fit  and ready to rock.

Enjoy the weekend.
