TRL DELIVERS WINNERS

Apr 29, 2022

Wow, what a week it’s been for owners in The Racing League with not ONE but TWO winners.

Luna Rocks was super impressive for the NSW Tycoons streeting the field at Warwick Farm, while Lethal Thoughts showed his potential with a narrow win for the Vic Husslers, while the good news is the best is yet to come.

Don’t worry Qld Rogues owners judging by the trial of Helluva Barty he looks like his set for an exciting debut.

Time to find some of the best chances of our TRL trainers.

FREEDMAN TOAST OF THE FARM

Richard Freedman received a rousing reception when entering the Winners Room courtesy of Luna Rocks stunning victory on Wednesday at Warwick Farm and justifiably so. He will now target the listed Woodlands Stakes for fillies on the Scone Standalone Meeting. If she wins that she’s arguably a ‘Million Dollar” filly.

Richard has a great record of lightning raids to Brisbane so don’t let Park Avenue (Race 6) sneak under your guard. She was pretty good at Hawkesbury last start and is $16 with Sportsbet.

BET: Park Avenue – Each Way (EF Race 6)

PRICE AND KENT SPLIT LOYALTIES

The Mick Price/Michael Kent Junior yard have targeted the standalone Hawkesbury meeting with Deepstrike (Race 4) while at Sandown Hell Hound (Race 1) appears to be their best chance.

Deepstrike looked pretty good when stepping up to a tougher grade last start and there’s no reason he won’t win again.

Hell Hound looked like a really promising prospect winning impressively on debut and clocking great sectionals, I’ll be sticking solid.

BET: Deepstrike – Each Way (Hawkesbury Race 4)

BET: Hell Hound – Win  (Sandown Race 1)

GAI ALWAYS HARD TO BEAT

The Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott stable have had good success at Hawkesbury, with their racing pattern of being up on the pace often paying dividends off the short straight.

Burgunder (Race 1) wasn’t far away at it’s first start at Hawkesbury on a Slow surface and is sure to have improved.

Vreneli (Race 10) is a last start winner who will go forward, gets through the conditions and makes his own luck.

KIM GOES TO WAUGH AT HAWKESBURY

Kim Waugh is quickly becoming a real favourite with TRL Owners who like to have a little interest on a Saturday, winning the last race last week with Bethencourt and we certainly hope the streak continues.

French Bonnet (Race 3) loves the wet track and she gets conditions to suit again on Saturday. This last start winner will again be there in the shadows of the post, however barrier 17 and 60.5kg is normally not a plus

MAHER AND EUSTACE POPULARITY SKYROCKETS

The popularity of Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace certainly hit an all time high with our Vic Husslers after Lethal Thoughts saluted at Sale on Wednesday.

The stable has always had a big opinion of Lethal, who’ll now likely head to the South Australian Sires in two weeks or a 1400m race at Flemington with JJ Atkins a likely target.

Tomorrow, keep an eye on Streeto (Race 3) unplaced last start but nothing went right.

Jayanthi (Race 5) is a last start winner who can win again.

Sonara (Race 7) doesn’t run a bad race and at $9 with Sportsbet is worth an each way dabble.

OLD FAVOURITE RETURNS TO HEATHCOTE

He will never replace Buffering as Rob Heathcote’s favourite horse, but Rothfire is extremely dear to Rob Heathcote’s heart.

The sprinting superstar has fought back from injury once and now for a second time. Rothfire had to contend with barrier 11, but looked great winning a barrier trial by 4 lengths and boasts a terrific first-up record.

BET: Rothfire – Win (EF Race 8)

O’DEA & HOYSTED CONTINUE TO IMPRESS

You can probably tell from the trainer reports that the O’Dea/Hoysted stable are extremely happy with Helluva Barty and he’s actually nominated for his first race this Wednesday.

I like their horse Palazzo Spirit (Race 5) at Eagle Farm, it’s been well supported on Sportsbet $5, is a great fresh horse has plenty of pace and will take some catching.

GOLLAN TO GO BOOM

The Gollan machine should roll on at Eagle Farm.

I reckon, Tony’s two best hopes are Zavaboom (Race 3) who savaged the line in winning last start and Palladas (Race 6) who’s got some class and has been smashed in early Sportsbet market firming to $4.50 even with barrier 19.

Good luck and good punting

TRL DELIVERS WINNERS

Cool Jakey was the King of Warwick Farm  on Wednesday and NSW Tycoons owners would like to package the Metropolitan track and just take it wherever Cool Jakey goes after he kept his undefeated record intact.

It’s remarkable that ‘Jakey’, trained on track and stabled across the road with Joe Pride, is one of those athletes, albeit of the equine kind, who thrives on his home ground.

He won on debut at Warwick Farm way back in February of 2023 and the love affair hasn’t ended, Cool Jakey has now won 4 from 4 at ‘The Farm’ and there’s plenty more wins in store for your son of Pierro.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
