TRL ON A WINNING ROLL

Oct 28, 2022

Take a bow TRL owners, that’s now 17 WINS from 14 RUNNERS to the track.

That’s a remarkable strike rate and something to be celebrated with hopefully more to come in a bumper week.

Hot Spring Gold: Saturday, Oct 29 – Eagle Farm

Team Captain: Tuesday, Nov 1 – Flemington

Maroon Magic: Wednesday, Nov 2 – Grafton

Sidenay: Thursday, Nov 3 – Hawkesbury

Bellinger: Saturday, Nov 5- Flemington

Who knows what the tally could be in the next seven days.

Good luck to all owners and now let’s check out the major chances of your TRL trainers on Victoria Derby/Golden Eagle day.

HOT SPRING IS BUBBLING

Hot Spring Gold has won three of his last four starts for the Qld Rogues which is just fantastic.

This Saturday he is up in class but down in weight. Trainer Chris Munce reports he has trained on well since his last win and with some luck in the straight will be hard to hold out.

Chris has another outstanding chance at big odds in Palaisipan (Race 8) at Flemington ; she has already been backed from $16 into $12. She is a very good mare who hasn’t missed a place in her last three starts. I’ll be sticking with her.

FREEDMAN’S ATTACK IN ALL 3 STATES

Richard and Will Freedman have a very busy Saturday with runners across two States.

At Flemington, Pavitra (Race 4) has had two wins from its last four starts, it did all the hard work last start and its $7 looks like a good play.

Juan Diva (Race 9) is at the very attractive price of $10. She’s resuming and was scratched from last week and kept fresh for this and did win first up last preparation.

While at Eagle Farm, Ang Pow (Race 5), has been well supported in early markets in race 5 is very talented and coming off a win at Newcastle.

HAYES TO KICK OFF THE CUP WEEK WITH TIJUANA

Ben and JD Hayes will have Bellinger for the Vic Husslers stepping out on the final day of the Cup carnival down the famous Flemington straight.

On Saturday they should start Cup week with a bang with Tijuana (Race 1) at $4 20. Tijuana won the Stutt Stakes and wasn’t far away in the Guineas; he’s pretty good.

PRICE – KENT JNR – JACQUINOT

I imagine that Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr are still on a high after I’m Thunderstruck went close to winning the Cox Plate last week, denied by a champ in Anamoe.

On Saturday Golden Rose winner Jacquinot should give them another thrill in the famous Coolmore Stakes.

After flashing home in The Everest, Jacquinot has already been backed from $7 to $5.

$10 MILLION GOLDEN EAGLE – STICK WITH JAMIE

In the Golden Eagle at Rosehill, there’s $10 million up for grabs and a field of 20 runners, import Light Infantry is the hot favourite and the class runner but having said that he is his having his first run in Australia is too short for me.

For Jamie Kah to turn her back on Derby day to ride Chain Of Lightning for Peter Moody is good enough for me to stick.

This 4yo mare has only lost 1 of 7 starts and at $5.50 is the better play.

CAVANOUGH ONE TO WATCH

One of our favourite trainers Brett Cavanough has Sungblue (Race 1)  at Rosehill and we’ve some success with this horse before.

Sungblue is resuming and has won first-up before and has also won on soft ground, let’s hope we get off to a flyer with Cav.

JOE PRIDE LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK WITH EDUARDO

Penso a Lei has been sold but we still count Joe Pride as one of our NSW Tycoons trainers.

His superstar galloper Eduardo was disappointing in the TAB EVEREST, but Joe is growing in confidence the veteran will bounce back at Rosehill.

Party for One (Race 2) has already firmed from $10 to $7 in early markets. She gets back in her races but can certainly reel off a quick sectional.

GOOD LUCK TO TONY GOLLAN

Tony Gollan and jockey Ben Thompson were both delighted with the barrier trial of Greylander on Thursday morning.

Tony has Nettuno in the Coolmore at Flemington and we wish him luck.

At Eagle Farm, Zavaboom (Race2) is tight in the market at $3, it stormed home at Ipswich and should get a gun run from the good barrier here.

Shamrock Lu (Race 8) has found a difficult race, she was unlucky last start and can win this.

BET: Zavaboom – Win (EF Race 2)

O’DEA/HOYSTED BETTER GET SET

Just the one from the O’Dea/Hoysted yard with Better Get Set (Race 3) the one to watch.

She was a beaten favourite last start but had excuses, she can post a long overdue victory. There’s been good money again $5 now from $7.

BET: Better Get Set – Each Way (EF Race 3)

Good luck and good punting.
