TRL OWNERS WIN AGAIN

Nov 4, 2022

Pop another bottle of champagne TRL owners, that’s now 18 WINS from 15 RUNNERS to the track.

That remarkable strike rate just got a little better with Maroon Magic making a winning debut for the Qld Rogues on Wednesday and there will hopefully be more to come in another bumper week.

  • Larrikin Rogue: Saturday, Nov 5 – Doomben
  • The Big Freeze: Monday, Nov 7 – Moe
  • Sidenay: Tuesday, Nov 8 – Gosford
  • Greylander – Tuesday, Nov 8 (Barrier Trial) – Doomben
  • Bellinger: Saturday, Nov 12 – Cranbourne

Who knows what the tally could be in the next seven days.

Good luck to all owners and now let’s check out the major chances of your TRL trainers on the final day of the Carnival.

LARRIKIN LOOKING TO GO BACK TO BACK

Trainer Chris Anderson has Larrikin Rogue poised to go ‘back to back’ when stepping up in distance over 1350m at Doomben.

He and Jockey Stephanie Thornton showed great courage by squeezing through a narrow gap to win at Eagle Farm. He’s done well since and the 1350m looks perfect for him.

Chris could make it a double with Very Intoxicating (Race 6) she has won her last two starts and while up in grade she should make it three straight.

BET: Larrikin Rogue – Win  (Doomben Race 4)

BET: Very Intoxicating – Each Way (Doomben Race 6)

HEATHCOTE THE HATCHET

I’ve narrowed the Heathcote runners down to just one on Saturday.

Hatchet (Race 2) is extremely tight in the market at $2.50 but from barrier 3 should get a great run and be able to lead and control the race. Is back in distance (1200m) which suits.

BET: Hatchet  – Win (Doomben Race 2)

GOLLAN IN FOR A STRONG DAY AT DOOMBEN

Tony Gollan was full of praise for Greylander who jumps out for the Qld Rogues on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Brisbane’s Champion Trainer could steam home with three winners.

Coup De Tonnerre (Race 5) has been smashed from $8 to $5.50 in early markets, jumps in distance but that should suit.

Shamaton (Race 8) was really good finishing second last start and can go one better.

Aussie Nuggett (Race 9) $4 was held up terribly last start when third, with an ounce of luck in the straight he’ll be winning the lucky last.

BET: Coup De Tonnerre – Each Way (Doomben Race 5)

BET: Shamaton – Win (Doomben Race 8)

PRICE IS THUNDERSTRUCK

Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr are hopeful of going one better in their battle with Anamoe in the Champions Stakes at Flemington.

I’m Thunderstruck went so close chasing down Anamoe in the Cox Plate and while he still faces a battle to beat the hotpot, he is capable.

French Emperor (Race 1) $5.50 has won his last 2 starts, this is a step up in grade but does have Jamie Kah in the saddle.

At Rosehill, Ayrton (Race 8) is a big improver on a dry track and at $8 is worth an interest.

BET: French Emperor – Each Way (Flem Race 1)

BET: Ayrton – Each Way (Rosehill Race 8)

HAYES SUPER KEEN ON BELLINGER

Ben Hayes was super disappointed Bellinger was balloted out of the sprint race on the final day of the carnival at Flemington.

He’s now going to Cranbourne next Saturday and will be hard to beat.

Sticking with Hayes and Angry Skies (Race 3) $6.50 who gets a weights edge and winkers go on.

BET: Angry Skies – Each Way (Flem Race 3)

MOODY AND THE BIG FREEZE

Last start winner The Big Freeze is being sent back to the scene of the victory by Trainer Peter Moody at Moe next Monday.

At Flemington, Glory Bound (Race 5) grabs your attention at big odds $12. She is stepping up distance and looking for her second career win.

Do Ya Punk (Race 9) has been specked at big odds $16 and posted a strong win last start at Moe.

BET: Do Ya Punch – Each Way (Flem Race 9)

MAHER/EUSTACE PARTY CONTINUES

The Ciaron Maher/Dave Eustace Melbourne Cup winning celebrations continue and why not.

At Rosehill, I Am Me (Race 9) has firmed from $4 into $2.90 is first-up, but won it’s first three straight last preparation.

BET: I Am Me –  Win (Rosehill Race 9)

JOE PRIDE WOULD MAKE A GOOD PRIVATE EYE

Eduardo used to be the best sprinter in the Joe Pride stable, maybe it’s now Private Eye.

Private Eye was great in The Everest, won like a champion last week and has gone to a new level.

BET: Private Eye – Each Way (Flemington Race 7)

MARK NEWNHAM COULD BE KING

Tony Gollan and Jockey Ben Thompson were both delighted with the barrier trial of Greylander on Thursday morning.

Tony has Nettuno in the Coolmore at Flemington and we wish him luck.

At Eagle Farm, Zavaboom (Race 2) is tight in the market at $3, it stormed home at Ipswich and should get a gun run from the good barrier here.

Shamrock Lu (Race 8) has found a difficult race, she was unlucky last start and can win this.

BET: King Frankel – Win (Rosehill Race 3)

BET: Willinga Rugio- Each Way (Rosehill Race 4)

GAI – THIS IS NO COINCIDE

Just one for me to concentrate on from the Waterhouse/Bott yard.

Coincide (Race 6) makes appeal at $6. He’s had just the one start and was just caught on the line on debut, he can sneak away with this.

BET: Coincide – Each Way (Rosehill Race 6)

Good luck and good punting.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
