Caxton Lass enjoys the Gold Coast more than a “Schoolie” and that’s saying something.
Instead of teenagers tearing up the Coast on Saturday, it was the Qld Rogues who were kicking up the sand and lapping up the good times with Caxton Lass notching her third career win and her second at the Coast.
There’s definitely a fun side to Caxton Lass, who, like millions of tourists, saves her best work for the glitter strip known as the Goldie, that magnificent stretch of sand from Coolangatta on the border to Main Beach in the North.
Glitz, glamour and now Caxton Lass.
AN UNLIKELY CALL UP AND WIN
It was another rollercoaster ride for Qld Rogues, when the field came out on Wednesday, their girl was sixth emergency and highly unlikely to get a run.
On Saturday, they were celebrating the most likely of wins in what turned out to be the lucky last on the Gold Coast.
Trainer Rob Hethcote had already started making alternative plans. But luck in this game is worth a fortune. ‘Caxton’ got a run and made them all sit up and take notice.
“You wouldn’t read about that.
“Congratulations Qld Rogues on Caxton Lass’s win, who said she wouldn’t get 1200m, she gets it, don’t worry about that.
“Lovely covered ride by Anthony Allen, and that’s now a couple of lovely wins at the Gold Coast.
“She looks magnificent, this horse, she has dapples coming through her coat and is a happy, healthy horse, and the good news is this morning (Monday) at the stables, she has pulled up great.
Add to all the obstacles, Caxton Lass also surprised the bookmakers drifting in the betting to start $20 after opening up as a $13 hope.

NOT SHORT OF ABILITY
s no secret that Caxton Lass has a stack of ability and is blistering fast in her work and a standout at the trials.
Transferring that form to the race track has been her problem, but Rob has never given up on this daughter of star sire Capitalist, who got a gun ride from Anthony Allen to claim her second win at the Goldie from three attempts.
Jockey Anthony Allen didn’t miss a beat.
“She is a horse that clearly likes this track and enjoys a smother behind the leaders with the pace on.
“I always thought we were travelling well and going to get there, but I guess we cut things a little fine.
“It was a good win, and that was over 1200m, so she was strong at the finish,” Jockey Anthony Allen said.
WHAT’S NEXT
Caxton Lass will be given a well-deserved week out away from the city stable just to refresh the mind after that win, and will be kept up to the mark with some water walking.
“She will love having the week away, and we will bring her back for that 1100m race on the Gold Coast on Friday night, December 19.
“It’s a Class 3 and I reckon she can just about knock that one off as well.”
That sounds like a plan.
Go you good thing!!!
