Your first Group 1 Runner

Jun 3, 2022

Talk about a dream come true!

The Vic Husslers go into the record books as providing TRLs first Group 1 runner in the form of Lethal Thoughts in next Saturday’s $1million JJ Atkins Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Trainer Ciaron Maher quipping “How good would it be to get a stallion for the Vic Husslers” bloody good Ciaron.

Keep reading for more on your horses plus we’ll try and find some winners from our other TRL trainers.

MAHER & EUSTACE FIRING LIKE A MASERATIE

Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace clearly love their horsepower and it looks like Maseratie Bay ($4.20 Sportsbet) is set to get them off the start line quickly at Flemington.

Maseratie Bay (Race 1) was unplaced last start but had no luck. Jamie Kah has taken the ride from barrier 6 should get a great run and return to the winners list.

Elzamee (Race 4) failed on the bog track during the ATC Derby but won a good form race prior to that and provided the surface isn’t too bad at Flemington can bounce back.

BET: Elzamee – Each Way (Flemington Race 4)

PETER MOODY OFF TO A FLYER

At Flemington on Saturday, Tussah looks like a terrific each way play in Race 2. This well-bred filly cost $260,000 and won a jump out in impressive fashion after sitting wide. She looks pretty good.

BET: Tussah – Each Way (Flemington Race 2)

MARK NEWNHAM HEADS SOUTH

Trainer Mark Newnham has been dogged by Heavy tracks in Sydney with the talented Dragonstone and has decided to head to Melbourne only to be confronted with a Heavy track.

In saying that, this looks like a suitable race for Dragonstone, you are getting $9 with Sportsbet, he’s consistent and will be storming home late.

At Rosehill, Willinga Rufio (Race 3) won its only career start over 1500m , they’ve taken the 2kg claim for Tyler Schiller and looks promising.

BET: Dragonstone – Win (Flemington Race 9)

BET: Willinga Rufio – Each Way (Rosehill Race 3)

ROSEHILL ANOTHER HEAVY TRACK

Gai Waterhouse continues to enjoy her mid-year break, shifting from Kentucky to England in preparation for Royal Ascot.

Meantime Adrian Bott continues to prepare the big team at home with Military Mission ($1.75) their major chance at Rosehill on a Heavy 8 with the rail out 3 meters.

Military Mission was just beaten at Gosford but now over 2400m the distance looks perfect and he’s yet to miss a place this prep.

Surf Dancer (Race 7) will be fitter for its last start third with an improving track a help.

King of Clubs (Race 9) is a UK import which has peaked my interest, looked great winning a trial and has been specked on Sportsbet from $9 to $6.

BET: Military Mission – Win (Rosehill Race 5)

JOE PRIDE ON THE MOVE

Rubinocchi (Race 8) looks attractive at $5 with Sportsbet. It won first-up, then jumped in class and failed, but is now back in grade and should make a presence felt.

Dethroned Unicorn (Race 10) could be lucky in the last at $8 with Sportsbet. He will appreciate the drier surface and can improve after failing to handle the Heavy track last start.

TONY GOLLAN TO BOOK END EAGLE FARM

Looking for 8 time premiership winning trainer Tony Gollan to book-end the card at Eagle Farm.

Race 1 – Youngblood is rated a $4.80 chance by Sportsbet, it had no luck in the Gold Coast Cup and should get a nice run from gate 8 and be hard to beat.

Race 10 – Putontheredlight $13 for Sportsbet, we are trusting in “Pikey in the last” with William Pike on board here, she can improve on the better ground at Eagle Farm.

BET: Youngblood – Each Way (Race 1)

BET: Putontheredlight – Each Way (Race 10)

BOOM GOES MUNCE

Chris Munce is busy plotting the next start for Hot Spring Gold who was good at the Sunny Coast in his first start for the Qld Rogues.

Boomnova (Race 5) won her last two races, this 4yo mare makes her own luck and can win again.

BET: Boomnova – Each Way (Eagle Farm Race 5)

ANDERSON OUT TO MAKE A PROFIT

Chris Anderson now has the soon-to-be-named Flying Artie x Laylia in pre-training in his Eagle Farm stable.

Profit (Race 7) has been a nice horse for the Anderson stable but has been plagued by the big wet in the South East of Queensland.

Look for Profit to take off mid-race and put the field under pressure, at $11 on Sportsbet he’s worth an each way gamble.

BET: Profit – Each Way (Eagle Farm Race 7)

Good luck and good punting.
