TRAINER PITCH EXTENSION

In breaking news…due to popular demand the deadline for trainer pitches has been extended for The Racing League.

Videos from leading trainers around the country continue to roll in to TRL headquarters and in an effort to allow all owners from all teams time to digest the pitches we’ve extended the deadline.

Trainers want YOU to VOTE for them to train for YOUR team.

The window for trainers will now be closed off on Sunday, January 3.

As an owner in the TRL, you’ll have a week to VOTE (starting on Monday, January 4)  on who trains for your team, with the winning trainers announced on Monday, January 11, the day before the Magic Millions starts on the Gold Coast.

WA trainers need to get a wriggle on

It’s probably no surprise that champion Fremantle player Hayden Ballantyne has been the quickest off the mark to throw his hat into the ring to train for YOU as part of the WA Black Hearts.

We’ll be making his video pitch public very soon, but he’s only one of six trainers needed for the Black Hearts team. Jim Taylor has also had the cameras in action down at his farm.

WA Ambassador and Black Hearts team manager Brittany Taylor is marshalling the troops. Expect pitches from Adam Durrant, the Pearce Brothers and Todd Harvey.

But you can also TAG your favourite trainer and encourage him or her to pitch.

Just a reminder each team is made up of 4 yearlings and 2 tried horses…so get your favourite WA trainers involved.

Micro-ownership On A Roll

There’s nothing better than lifeless racetracks being brought alive through micro-ownership groups who turn out in numbers to add some tremendous atmosphere to an otherwise dull meeting.

The miRunners organisation is on a serious roll and certainly playing it’s part in revitalising some lack lustre meetings.

Five of the last six runners for miRunners have been winners and there could be another one this weekend.

Dusty Tycoon is looking to add to the impressive tally when she takes on a strong field in Race 9 at  Doomben on Saturday.

Trainer Rob Heathcote is delighted with her progress and with the blinkers added stands a great chance of adding some black type to her pedigree.

Rob Heathcote wants to train for you in The Racing League, check out his pitch.

WA’s champion jockey William Pike will be looking for redemption in this Saturday’s Group One Kingston Town Classic aboard the very talented Inspirational Girl.

It doesn’t happen often but Pike failed to deliver last weekend when he was beaten on an odds-on favourite in Trekking in the Group One Winterbottom.

Pike will have to be at his best on Inspirational Girl in the Kingston Town, she has drawn barrier 18, but remains the short priced favourite and is coming off that super impressive last start win in the Group One Railway.

Inspirational Girl is looking to become the first horse since Sniper’s Bullet in 2009 to win both the Railway Stakes and Kingston Town Classic in the same year.

GOLLAN WITH A TWO PRONGED ATTACK

7 time champion Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan, who’s pitched to be a trainer in The Racing League for the Queensland Rogues has a strong hand in the feature event at Doomben this Saturday the $200,000, Group 3, George Moore Stakes at Doomben.

Gollan worked his magic to have Jonker break a long drought last start, while Outback Barbie, who was disappointing in two starts in Sydney is extremely good fresh.

Punters believe Jonker can now go back to back and is a firm favourite, while Outback Barbie is around the $18 mark.

Magic Millions Get In Quick

Now “the Queensland Wall” has fallen and the border is open, there are still plenty of restrictions for fans wanting to attend the Magic Millions Carnival in January.

The crowd for Gold Coast Turf Club’s biggest day of the year will be restricted to approximately 14,000 people instead of the normal 24,000.

You may well say, how did the Queensland Government allow 50,000 people for the Origin decider only last month. Well, strangely enough football stadiums in Queensland are classed as outdoor venues while racetracks are considered indoor venues…go figure.

Cool Jakey was the King of Warwick Farm  on Wednesday and NSW Tycoons owners would like to package the Metropolitan track and just take it wherever Cool Jakey goes after he kept his undefeated record intact.

It’s remarkable that ‘Jakey’, trained on track and stabled across the road with Joe Pride, is one of those athletes, albeit of the equine kind, who thrives on his home ground.

He won on debut at Warwick Farm way back in February of 2023 and the love affair hasn’t ended, Cool Jakey has now won 4 from 4 at ‘The Farm’ and there’s plenty more wins in store for your son of Pierro.

BOUNCE BACK FACTOR

As Tycoons were made aware of, there’s a theory in racing that when a horse suffers from cardiac arrhythmia, “you must back it next start” and they win.

And that was certainly the message after Cool Jakey suffered cardiac arrhythmia the previous start at Randwick, with Joe Pride telling Tycoons in the pre-race late mail, “Don’t worry about what happened last start, the horse is fine and he looks great,” how right Joe was with Cool Jakey leading all the way.

HIPPO FROM BARRIER TO BOX

Adam Hyeronimus was having his first sit on Cool Jakey and he rode him a treat. We joked before the race “just go to the front and improve your position” and that’s exactly what he did.

“He jumped well and found a nice rhythm straight away, he had a nice time so I let him slide early into it at the 600metres so we did go a bit early.

“He felt fantastic throughout the run and was doing it easily, so I did get a bit of a surprise how quickly he stopped.

“So maybe I did go too early, but in saying that, maybe seven furlongs is his upper limit. On that effort he’ll be winning again” Jockey Adam Hyeronimus said.

JOE DELIGHTED

“That was good guys” trainer Joe Pride said, with a big smile to a large contingent of NSW Tycoons on Cool Jakey returning to scale.

“Look it was nice to see him win on a track that wasn’t bottomless wet, it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

“In saying that if there was a 1400m for him in a fortnight on a Good track I would probably be reluctant to start him. We need to nurse him through it and the next month – six weeks isn’t going to be easy because it’s carnival time.

WHATS NEXT – PACK YOUR BAGS

The Tycoons have been very patient with Cool Jakey and their patience has been rewarded. He is building a very nice career record which stands at only 13 starts for 5 wins and a minor placing and is now pushing the $200,000 in prize money.

‘Jakey’ has initially pulled up well, but we all know that he is a delicate soul and has to be treated with kindness and Joe is reluctant to push him too hard too quickly. Which is fair enough.

“We might even consider travelling him maybe to Melbourne or Brisbane for a wet track, we just need to look after him.

“He’s been a good horse for us, we will look after him and his best opportunities will come in the Winter,” Joe concluded.

Congratulations to all NSW Tycoons and winning connections.

Go you good thing!
