A larger-than-life character, Brett Cavanough has certainly done the hard yards, riding track work at the age of 12 for his grandfather. Cav has won the title of New South Wales’s leading country trainer on five occasions, defeating the likes of Paul Perry, Kris Lees and Barbara Joseph, a remarkable effort for an Albury-based trainer at the time.


He made the big move to Scone and brought up a career highlight in winning the prestigious 2021 Kosciuszko at Royal Randwick with his stable star It’s Me. Cav is, without doubt, a “likeable larrikin”, and his success is based on the simple principles of hard work and professionalism that come from growing up in outback Queensland.
